DaltonPublic Schools Special Project Team Secondary Enrollment and Facilities Study Group Community Meeting – December 3, 2013
Welcome & Purpose Dr. Jim Hawkins – Superintendent Dalton Public Schools Danny Crutchfield – Chairman of the DPS Board of Education
Explanation and Expectations of Board Directive Danny Crutchfield – Chairman of the Board of Education, Dalton Public Schools
Dalton Public SchoolsBoard of Education Directive Secondary Enrollment and Facilities Study Group Directive The enrollment for Dalton Public Schools secondary students (6-12) based on the October 2013 FTE report and the capacity of current facilities indicate the need to review possible secondary options, to include Dalton High School, Morris Innovative High School, and Dalton Middle School. The projected growth of student population, especially in grades 9-12, demands planning for the near future as well as the long-term capacity of district facilities. The Board of Education directs the superintendent to initiate a secondary study team to review all available information related to enrollment, instructional programming, extracurricular programming, facilities capacity, and assignment to schools. The team shall develop and propose solutions that present feasible and viable options for secondary students and their families that create desirable outcomes. The Board further directs the superintendent to include among the study group two members of the Board, community members, teachers, coaches, activity sponsors, administrators, and others with an interest in enhancing education in Dalton. The study group will be established no later than the Board Retreat in February 2014. The group shall present an interim report in June 2014 with a final recommendation to the Board by September 2014.
