Each school in our system has Professional Learning Communities (PLC) • The PLCs are developed at each campus based on local students’ needs, campus concerns, grade levels, etc. • The implementation and expansion of technology is a driving force at SEHS • Thus was formed the Technology PLC. It’s been said that students POWER DOWN when they come to school. • Our PLC’s goal is to find a way to engage students in a way in which they are able to stay POWERED UP. • Members of our PLC discussed software and websites that students could use or already use and with which they are comfortable. With the support of our local administration, we began to brainstorm ideas and develop a plan. • As local technology coordinator, I contacted our system’s Technology Director who fully supported our efforts and promoted the idea to other schools in the system • We secured awards from area business and restaurants including gas cards, itunes cards, and gift cards. • When we had our “ducks in a row,” we involved our teachers. We developed a flier and emailed all of our teachers to encourage participation. • We made announcements recognizing teachers and students who were submitting completed projects for the contest. • We contacted teachers who typically assign technology based projects to ensure they selected “worthy” samples to include in the showcase.
