Timeline • 1970-Xerox opens Palo Alto research center. • 1971-RCA sells its computer division . • 1972-Hewlett Packard announces its hp-30. • 1973-The Micril was invented. • 1974-Xeroxes palo alto research center designed the Alto. • 1975-Xerox closes its computer division.
Timeline • 1985-The Amiga 1000 is released. • 1995-Java is introduced. • 2001-Xbox is released. • 2002-Over 1 billion pc’s have been sold. • 2005-Ebay gets Skype. • 2006-Skype has over 100,000 users.
CPU • CPU stands for central processing unit. It is almost like the brain of the computer.
Video card • A video card is a expansion card that allow the computer to send graphical information to a video display like the monitor.
RAM • RAM stands for random access memory. You can access any memory cell directly if you know the row and column it is on.
Hard drive • It is a efficient computer memory device.
CD-ROM • CD-ROM stands for compact disk read only memory.
USB Port • USB stands for universal serial bus connector. It allows you to plug in mice, keyboards, and printers.
PCI Card • PCI stands for peripheral component interconnect. PCI’s include stuff like network cards and sound cards.
Motherboard • It allows all the parts of the computer to recieve power and communicate with each other.
Power source • The power source for computers is electric.
