Romanian context • the weak state – national and local authorities failed in implementing strategic and relevant programs on social and professional inclusion of less favored people • the social state – excessive financial support instead of formative actions • the tormented state – “politically challenged” lack of vision on social issues and/or sustainable development

Area of intervention:Cultures and collective identities Collective memory and local transformation Local Partners: 2 trainers at William Tyrell Foundation –International Center for Volunteering and Community Resources, Slatina (Olt county) Target Group: children with ages in between 8-18 years old.
Slatina City (Olt County) About 60,000 people industrialized area (aluminum extraction and preparation) Few opportunities for further education of socially disadvantaged children and youth Youth migration towards larger and more developed cities like Craiova and Bucharest To promote antidiscrimination and community development through social dialogue and volunteering; To support children and youth to develop life skills to face challenges of nowadays society and to obtain more control on their own lives; To create direct volunteering opportunities for the local community so as to decrease the distance among its members; To make young people aware of the European topics: European citizenship, active participation, informal education, intercultural dialogue, poverty, tolerance, social inclusion, and environment LOCAL CONTEXT LOCAL PARTNER – WILLIAM TYRELL FOUNDATION
