Energy Conservation (EC): What is it and what is required? -Statute -SECO -OCA’s Energy Conservation Plan
Statute • Executive Order RP 49 • Electric Customer Education Campaign • State Agency Energy Savings Program • Each state agency shall develop a plan for conserving energy and shall set a percentage goal for reducing its usage of electricity, gasoline, and natural gas. • Diversity of Energy Supply • http://www.governor.state.tx.us/divisions/press/exorders/rp49
SECO • State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) • The mission of the State Energy Conservation Office is to maximize energy efficiency while protecting the environment. • SECO helps Texas make the most of domestic energy, reduce state and local government energy costs and promote cost-effective clean energy technologies. • http://www.seco.cpa.state.tx.us
OCA’s EC Plan • Energy saving tips and techniques may be distributed to employees via internal e-mail. • Employees are encouraged to submit energy saving ideas to the Energy Conservation Team members. • As new equipment is deemed necessary, employees are encouraged to purchase energy efficient models.

EC Committee’s goals as a team: • Meet at least twice a year • Send out quarterly emails to OCA staff • Organize energy conservation contests • Monitor suggestion box
