Ryerson New Faculty SRC Development Fund. Information Session December 11, 2007. PURPOSE. The purpose of this fund is to assist new Ryerson faculty members to establish and implement a SRC program. This initiative does not fund “stand alone” projects that are not part of a larger plan.

PURPOSE The purpose of this fund is to assist new Ryerson faculty members to establish and implement a SRC program. This initiative does not fund “stand alone” projects that are not part of a larger plan.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Open to: probationary tenure track faculty, (normally limited to faculty hired at the assistant professor level) • Arts • Business • Communication & Design • Community Services • Department of Architectural Science
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA • are within first 2 years of their appointment at Ryerson • have NOT been a PI on an external grant from a federal granting council award OR a PI on a major grant from another external source • have some support from the Faculty/Department • have NOT received a previous award from this fund • New faculty enrolled in a degree program: • OPTION A*: may apply within first two years of hire (may not be used to support your degree) OR • OPTION B: may apply in the year immediately following completion of the degree, provided the degree is completed four years from the date of hire * Those who apply under Option A may not apply under Option B
GRANT VALUE & DEADLINE • up to $10,000 • awards granted for a two-year period Deadline January 22, 2008at 4 p.m. • submit on-line Application Form AND • signed off hard copy to ORS by the deadline

PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION Avoid jargon, use plain language and include: • describe an ongoing overall SRC program; • the specific nature of the research activity to be funded; • the methodology or theoretical approach to be employed, including data collection and analysis strategies;
PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION (continued) • how the proposed activity will prepare the applicant for future externally funded applications; (identify an agency, reason for choice and relevance to current development activities); and • the expected completion date of the project.
ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES Clearly indicate expected outcomes..... • Publication in a journal • Preliminary stage of a larger project • How the project will lead to future externally funded research applications • Outline plans for dissemination of results
SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT OR FACULTY SUPPORT indicate support (financial or non-financial) that is or will be provided
LIST: BIBLIOGRAPHICAL NOTICES Provide an edited list of references consulted in your review of relevant literature
BUDGET Provide an itemized budget, explaining the relationship of the funds requested to the research proposed, with a clear statement indicating other funding sources to which applicants will be applying, and/or have applied. All budget items must conform to University policy regarding pay and benefit rates, and allowable expenses.

BUDGET – ELIGIBILE EXPENSES • Release time stipends (confirm in advance with Chair & provide details of teaching workload) • Research Assistants • Technical services (i.e. computer services) • Software purchase & equipment rental (not available at Ryerson) • Disposable supplies (i.e. stationery, postage, photocopy) • Books, documents (not available from Ryerson Library)
BUDGET – INELIGIBILE EXPENSES • Office equipment rental (i.e. desks, filing cabinets) • Memberships to professional societies • Child care expense • Preparation of teaching materials or text • Commercial or contract consultancies • Research leading to a degree • Remuneration to PI or Co-Investigator
CRITERIA – REVIEW COMMITTEE • Ability to formulate an overall SRC Program (SRC agenda, development focus, show how this project fits within it) • Complete & thorough proposal • Appropriateness & relevance of the specified external funding opportunity to the project activities
CRITERIA (continued) • Scientific/creative merit and potential impact of the project/program • Quality & experience of the PI and/or the team • Applicant’s record of scholarly achievement
