Fine Arts Program rated Recognized The BECHS Fine Arts services are closely linked with the dual enrollment courses at UTB. The campus does not have a regular high school Fine Arts Program, but students are provided with multiple opportunities to engage in a wide variety of Fine Arts activities through their club membership and classroom projects. Wellness and Physical Education Programs rated Recognized BECHS students and staff have made a major commitment to improving the health and wellness of our community. BECHShas partnered with the Brownsville Healthy Communities organization among others to support wellness and physical activities. Brownsville Early College High School
Community and Parental Involvement rated Recognized The Brownsville Early College High School Parental Involvement programs reach out to all of our parents and guardians to join our faculty and staff in supporting our students. Students are very active in community service activities like the Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive. Brownsville Early College High School
21st Century Workforce Development rated Exemplary All BECHS students not only have high school plans but also have college plans in place as freshmen. BECHS students continue to garner many prestigious scholarships including Gates Millennium scholarships. This year’s recipient was Jorge Rocha. Brownsville Early College High School
Second Language Acquisition Program Exemplary Bilingual programs, English as a Second Language programs and other supports are assisting our students in becoming more literate in English. Although most students have exited ESL services by the time they enter the Brownsville Early College High School, the campus provides additional supports for students to strengthen their English skills. Digital Learning Environment rated Recognized Technology is incorporated in all content areas at the Brownsville Early College High School. Students have assigned laptop computers and all classrooms have fully integrated technology used for daily instruction. Brownsville Early College High School
Dropout Prevention Strategies rated Exemplary Tutorial or accelerated instructional opportunities are provided for all students but are specifically targeted for at-risk students. Early College High Schools are supported by the Texas Education Agency as a means of accelerating at-risk students into college. The Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Carl Montoya recognized the Brownsville Early College High School (BECHS) for earning finalist status in the 2013 “Examples of Excelencia” at the associate level for accelerating Latino student success in higher education. A committee of national experts selected the BECHS program for recognition. Brownsville Early College High School
Gifted and Talented Program rated Recognized G/T identified students have the opportunity for major acceleration in attaining college credits at Brownsville Early College High School and to find peers in areas of interest. Potentially life-long relationships can be formed with faculty and other students who have interests related to students’ areas of interest through classes and UTB organizations.
