  3. Balance Arranging the elements of an artwork so that no part feels heavier or overpowers another.

  4. Three Types of Balance • Symmetrical • Asymmetrical • Radial • All SUCCESSFUL artworks have one type of balance!

  5. Symmetrical Balance • Mirror Image • Exactly the same on both sides

  6. Asymmetrical Balance • Not a mirror image • Is balanced but not with the same objects • Smaller more interesting objects balance larger objects

  7. Radial Balance • Balance associated with a circle • Object has center point that all other objects come from • No obvious top or bottom

  10. Emphasis Creating a focal point in an artwork Focal point- the first thing you see in an artwork.
