  7. Getting geared up • You will need some basic gear to get started: • Guitar • Picks • Case • Tuner • Optional, but highly recommended: • Strap • Chord book/chart • Additional Strings

  8. Buying the right guitar • Shop around and make sure you pick one with the sound you like. • Don’t go too expensive with your first guitar. • Elixir Strings are highly recommended.

  9. Practice habits • Guitar is not learned overnight • You can always learn something new • Practice is necessary • Build the calluses on your fingers

  10. Getting Started • Posture – Sit up straight • Rest the guitar on your leg • Keep the neck of the guitar horizontal • Rest your strumming arm on the body of the guitar • Can play with a pick or by finger picking

  11. Tablature • Play guitar without reading music… • Uses numbers to reference where to position your fingers on the fret board.
