Guiding Framework: Public Education Leadership Project Developed by the Harvard Schools of Business and Education Has been implemented in several school districts across the United States Its intent is to guide school personnel through a process that puts teaching and learning at the core of all school district functions
Strategic Planning Goals Goals:a. To formulate a 3-year DRAFT of 7 Focus Areas by June 2009b. To BETA-test Focus Areas and survey stakeholders during 2009 – 2010 c. To begin implementing a 3-year Strategic Plan by July 1, 2010 Format:a. Each goal will be a SMART goal that can be monitored for 3 yearsSMART= Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timelineb. Each goal should follow the following format: Goal(describe) Cost(identifying source) Point Person(or team of people) Action Plan(SMART Goal)
Strategic Planning Process • Develop initial Strategic Planning Draft, based on 2008 – 2009 needs and goals • Conduct surveys for community input • Present 1st draft of Strategic Plan to the Board • Identify and remove barriers to strategic goals • Board adoption of Strategic Plan • Aligned with LEAP, WASC, SSC, ELAC, board goals, and budget
Strategic Planning Timeline April 2009:Framework presented to the Board May 2009:Staff develops initial plans for focus areas Aug–Oct. 2009:Surveys collected on focus areas Dec. 2009:First draft presented to the Board March 2010:Final draft adopted July 2010:Implementation of Strategic Plan
