    4. Who Owns a Veterinary Statutory Body? All individuals registered by the body (the Profession) Provides autonomous, self-governing function

    5. Who Does Veterinary Statutory Body serve? Customers Society or public at large Members Animals Governments

    6. What is the Role of the Veterinary Statutory Body? In the interest of society Regulate Enhance Provide Leadership in the practice of the profession of veterinary medicine.

    7. Role of the Veterinary Statutory Body (Regulate) Ensure all practitioners deliver service at the level demanded by: Local legislation International policy Professional policy

    8. Initial Registration (mandatory & universal) Based on qualified education and skill.

    9. Maintain Registration Life long learning Continuous professional development

    10. Re-Registration of expired or suspended persons Re-training Supplemental education

    11. Role of the Veterinary Statutory Body (Enhance) Vet 2011 committee “Modern Veterinarians are not only animal doctors and animal welfare advocates… Reducing global hunger Controlling zoonoses Monitoring food quality and safety Biomedical research Protecting the environment & biodiversity

What does a Veterinary Statutory Board Require Evidence of knowledge and skill required to be considered a Veterinary Doctor or Veterinary Para-professional Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates specific to meet various categories of registration Proof of quality and quantity of education Proof of Day one competencies Accreditation of educational program to adequate standard and by independent third party Verification that curriculum provides for all practice areas (private & public) Engagement in curriculum development in anticipation of evolving and future needs

Conclusions Veterinary Statutory Bodies must Register all Veterinary Practitioners based on educational qualifications Engage in educational program accreditation processes to deliver day one competencies Engage in curriculum development to meet current & future needs Facilitate harmonization of the profession by engagement and registration of all practitioners Private Clinical Public Academic
