  2. Slide 2: Given and Find • Given: • It took 16 days to raft the Grand Canyon. • Find: • How many miles is the Grand Canyon?

  4. Method/Approach • First we estimated the average speed of the raft. We then estimated how many hours would be spent each day rafting. We used the information to calculate the miles per day. Then we multiplied that by the number of days to get the total distance.

  5. Assumptions • Traveled entire canyon in raft. • Traveled constant speed. • Traveled 3 hours a day. • Speed was 5 miles per hour. • Traveled same distance and time every day.

  6. Solution • (5 miles/hour)(3 hours/day) = 15 miles/day • (15 miles/day)(16 days) = 240 miles.
