The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying: "Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear My words." Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?" says the LORD. "Look, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! (Jeremiah 18:1-6 NKJV)
Five Core Truths for the Clay 1. Our lives are God’s idea, not our own. "Remember these, O Jacob, And Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me! (Isaiah 44:21 NKJV) 2. The One who had the idea about us has always had a clear purpose in mind for us. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified [set apart for a unique purpose] you..." (Jeremiah 1:5a NKJV) 3.None of our lives are a mistake. We are living and breathing during this time of history to fulfill a significant purpose from Heaven. “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NIV)
Five Core Truths for the Clay 4. Allow the One who first thought of you and made you to reveal the plan He always had in mind for you. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV) 5. Every vessel has its own unique design and corresponding unique purpose. “God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” (1 Peter 4:10 NLT)
Three Reference Points of God’s Plan for Your Life 1. He made your – PERSONALITY “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. He gives you – SPIRITUAL GIFTS “However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.” Ephesians 4:7 NLT 3. He provides you – OPPORTUNITIES “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 “We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will...so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God...and giving joyful thanks to the Father.” Colossians 1:9-12
Discovering Spiritual Gifts 1. The HOLY SPIRIT is God’s primary gift. “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you…and will be in you.” John 14:16-17 2. God’s Spirit works in us to PRODUCE FRUIT and STEWARD GIFTS . “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 NLT “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10 3.
