WP 1: Establishment of • University Chair on Innovation • We established the infrastructure of the chair; Laboratory and equipments; etc … • The University have been prepared a second space of 100 square meters to host the Visio conferencing room for training courses, and UNCHAN project will equip it in data processing and informatics equipments • We Introduced the chair to the university structure . • The team of the Chair Management is selected and in operation • The regalements have been identified and the tasks will be distributed according the business plan of the chair Dr. Hussein Al Mohammad &Working group, Aleppo Meeting 02-03 November 2010

UNiversityCHAir on INnovation The office and staff in Aleppo university established and in operation • is ready and fully established as (Centre of Aleppo University on Innovation) • the staff in Aleppo University is engaged and in action in different activities, They consists in 10 persons. • The work started since 05/2009. WP 1: Equipments and furniture • Almost necessary equipments are ready in the office laboratory : • Pc × 5 • UBS x 5 • Lab top x 1 • Video projector x 2 • Ethernet network points edge switches • Flat panel HD TV monitors and electric screen • Color laser printer • HD digital video cameras • Application/data server • Smart Board • Photocopy • Color printer, fax, scanner • Still digital cameras • Wi-Fi network Dr. Hussein Al Mohammad &Working group, Aleppo Meeting 02-03 November 2010

  9. The Relationship between Aleppo University and Industry • The weakness of communication and information between university and industry prevents the exchange of successful experiences. • Also most of the researches at the university do not serve the industry and their impact is modest in economic development. • This relation has the following aspects : • Lack of administrative incompatibility with needs. • Insufficient financial support for R&D. • University misses a clear mechanism to locate and follow the problems and the development of industry. • Insufficient trust between the industry and university. • Low potential of the university to translate the needs and the problems of industry into projects R&D and innovation . UNiversityCHAir on INnovation Concerning the main difficulties in creating new University-Industry contacts: •  there is a real lack of promotion material which could reflect the benefits of University-Industry cooperation •  There is a lack also of interest to cooperate with the local university becausein the past there were few projects conducted in cooperation with the university and with week dissemination •  There are difficulties in defining project parameters, costs and outcomes Dr. Hussein Al Mohammad &Working group, Aleppo Meeting 02-03 November 2010
