What is colliquallanguage? • Colliqual language is a language composed of words and phrases used in everyday casual situations between friends and family and not in formal conversation. • A colloquial writing style is the most informal style, it uses words,idioms and expressions that are characteristic of spoken english but not acceptable in formal written english. Examples of ColloquialLanguage Informal: Some adults haven’t got a clue about what is important to the younger generation. Formal: Adults may not be aware of what is important to the younger generation. Informal: I don’t want my kid sister tagging along with my friends and me. Formal: I do not want my younger sister accompanying my friends and me.

Where/When colliqual language is used? • Popularily used by people on a day to day basis making it a very commonly spoken language between friends and family • Writers use it to give there writing a contemporary informal tone or add humour. • It is mostly used during everyday casual situations between friends and family, at home or in shops rather than in educational institutions, or in formal conversation. Difficulties of ColloquialLanguage • Oftenusedbased on a metaphorsoit’sharder to understand for somepeople. • Based on culture and doesn’teasilytranslate to othernationalities, culturesand/ortimeperiods. • Becomesharder to adapt to due to the factthatit is constantlychanging and developingovertime as wordsmaybeadapted.

  4. What is a slang? Slang is very informal usage in vocabulary and conversation that is usually more metaphorical than ordinary language, like for example “Hit the road” . Slang is linked to colloquial language, where words mean something other than their formal meaning, or where words are used that are not actual English words. Slang is often not found in the dictionary, because someone or a group of people have created them as shared expressions. Examples of slang : •the gangster term "hit" specifically meant an armed attack or killing. •The gangster term "rod" meant a gun •the non-word "warez" is computer slang for pirated or illegal software •the slang "babelicious" means an attractive female Slangconsists of new words, oroldwords in new uses, thatarevivid and colorful. High-school and college sudentsenjoyadopting the latest ”newest” slang. Most of slangsareshortlived. Itenjoys a briefpopularity and then is forgottenornotused. For thatreason , it is difficult to compile an illustrativelist of slangtermsthatwillbemeaningfuleven a yearlater.

  5. When is a slang used and where. Slang is used mostly under teenagers and young adults, particularly in groups or “gangs”. Slang is appliancedall around the world in different ways, depending on the language spoken. Because slang that you might know here could and probably has a complete different meaning in for example a chinese public school. Slang is also used in Social Media, Advertisements and especially movies. Who does slang affect? Slang affects mostly youth but also elders, when for example using slang when talking to ones parents. How does slang affect people? Slang affects the people in good and bad ways. When a young adult uses slang in a conversation with an elder it can sometimes be misinterpret.
