The .Asia Concept • Have been working on the idea and initial framework for ~1 year • Key concept is that the Dot Asia Organization will be: • Not-for-profit Registry Operator Driven by ccTLDs • Adding AP Internet and IT Groups for relevance, and broad representation from the Asia Pacific community • “.Asia” as the TLD to satisfy sponsored gTLD criteria (>2 chars) and most simple and recognizable • “.EU” is a ccTLD and European Commission, “Asia” will be driven by community based organizations and ccTLDs • Combination of semi-public sector organizations and community organizations
The .Asia Vision & Mission • Vision: • Leverage the successful and cooperative platform of Asia Pacific Region Internet community to further this collaborative approach to other areas of the growing economies. • Mission: • to operate a viable not-for-profit initiative to be a technically advanced, world-class TLD registry for the Asia Pacific community; • to establish an Internet namespace with global recognition and regional significance for the betterment of the Asian Internet experience; and, • to reinvest surpluses in socio-technological advancement initiatives relevant to the Asian Internet community.
