  1. R.Q: How does the classroom environment affect year 7’s learning? By Kate North and Kiah Holley

  2. Why this question? We chose to research this question because both of us are interested about what year 7’s think about the school environment. We find that decorations in our school vary from good to bad.

  3. How? • We decided to get the information by giving out questionnaires. We gave out about 30 questionnaires to a top set year seven English class.

  4. Here are some of our closed questions…

  5. Question: Do you think there should be more colour around school? 16 out of 26 people said yes they did want more colour around the school.

  6. Question: • Do you think you learn better in a bigger classroom? About half of the people we asked said that they do learn better in a bigger classroom

  7. Question: • Do you struggle to learn if you don’t like the colour and decoration of the classroom?

  8. What kind of classroom do you like? • Hands up please?

  9. Question: • Do you learn better if there is music playing in the classroom?

  10. Here are some of our open questions…

  11. Before I show you these questions what kind of questions do you think I would ask? • Hands up again!

  12. Question: • Do you like sitting in groups or lines on tables? • Groups: 22 Lines:6 • Why? • Reasons for Groups: • Likes Team work-4 • More Social-4 • Easier to talk and communicate with other pupils-10 • Less distracting-1 • Better environment-1 • Reasons for lines: • Easier to see-3 • Less distracting people-3 On the next slide are some examples of what people put…

  13. Lines Less Distracting People- Because then everybody is facing the same way and nobody can distract you from straight on Groups Likes Team Work-Because you can work together and it teaches you team skills and working on your own. Likes Team Work- Because you can work together and it teaches you team skills and working on your own. Easier to see- Because peoples big heads aren’t in the way.

  14. conclusion • To conclude we found that most pupils would love to have more creative and colourful things in the classroom, to help them learn, and give them inspiration. It is easier to learn if, for example, there is sometimes music playing in the classroom or the classroom is bigger. The pupils thought that the displays were inspiring but if the do get damaged or old they don’t help.
