  3. 1. Background • Presidential Proclamation No. 647, Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month (NSM), issued on September 20, 1990. • Nationwide celebration

  4. 1. Background • Objectives • to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and • to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. • NSM theme • is focused on a specific sector in which the main goal is the improvement of statistics in that sector.

  5. 2. Theme of the 23rd NSM MONITORING PROGRESS ON DECENT WORK THROUGH STATISTICS: Pathway to Inclusive Growth • Host: Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) • Theme: Four strategic objectives in the area of • employment • rights at work • social protection • social dialogue

  6. 3. 23rd NSM Opening Ceremony • When: October 1, 2012 • Venue: Century Park, Hotel, Malate Manila • Participants: 347 guests from various sectors

  7. 3. 23rd NSM Opening Ceremony • Speakers • DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldozdelivered the Keynote Speech • NEDA Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan and Chair of the NSCB Executive Board delivered the Inspirational Message

  8. 3. 23rd NSM Opening Ceremony • ILO Country Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson presented the launching of the Decent Work Statistics – Philippines (DeWS-Phil) and Community-Based Employment Program (CBEP) Website and On-Line Monitoring System

  9. 3. 23rd NSM Opening Ceremony • 4th NSM Media Awards • NSM Media awards were given to: • Jake Chew Soriano (GMA News Research) - Online News category • MalouMangahas (PCIJ) – Online Investigative category • Iris Gonzales (Philippine Star) – Print Straight News category • The Special Assignment Team (GMA News and Public Affairs) – TV Broadcast category • Given in recognition on the contribution of the media to statistical advocacy

  10. 3. 23rd NSM Opening Ceremony • 22nd NSM Awards: Best Activity and Best Region • National Statistics Office (NSO): • NSM Best Information Dissemination Activity - “Statistical Exhibit in SM Supermalls” • NSM Best Forum - “NSO Research Forum 2011” • Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS): • NSM Best Statistical Contest - “Poster Making” • Region Vl: NSM Best Region and Second Region in the Hall of Fame • Given in recognition on the agencies/ institutions outstanding participation in the NSM celebration

  12. 4. 2012 NSM Tree Planting Activity PSS 9th Tree Planting Activity in Bulacan • Held in Barangay Caingin, San Rafael, Bulacanon 30 October 2012 • Attended by 263 participants from 25 government agencies • Graced by Mayor Lorna C. Silverio of San Rafael Bulacan and Region III Exec. Director Maximo O. Dichoso • 1,000 saplings of banaba, eucalyptus and narra were provided by DENR • A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among the Municipality of San Rafael, DENR Region III and NSCB was signed to ensure proper care and growth of the saplings

  13. 5. 23rd NSM Closing Ceremony • Hosted by the BangkoSentralngPilipinas (BSP)* • Held on 28 October 2012 at the BSP preceded by the 14th BSP-DepEd NCR Oratorical Contest • Keynote address by BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. • Closing Remarks by NSCB Secretary General Dr. Jose Ramon G. Albert * BSP has been the host of the NSM Closing Ceremonies since 2001

  14. 4. 23rd NSM Activities Undertaken • 23rd NSM Calendar of Activities: • 323 decrease from 565 Information & Education Campaign (IEC) 238 increasefrom 96 Various Fora 130 increasefrom 123 Statistical Contests 54 decrease from 84 Exhibits 3 increase from 2 Others 748 Activities Nationwide 518 agencies/institutions undertook the activities • 656 agencies/ institutions in 2011 • 518 agencies/ institutions in 2012 • 21 % decrease in the number of participating agencies/ institutions • 870 activities in 2011 • 748 activities in 2012 • 14 % decrease in the number of activities
