  1. Unit2 11.f.21Heat energy lesson 2 Temperature and heat energy MPW/EQI

  2. Key Questions 1. What is heat energy? 2. What is the difference between temperature and heat energy? 3. What is the unit of heat energy? 4. How does heat energy affect me? MPW/EQI

  3. Key Questions 1. What is heat energy? Heat energy is energy moving from a hotter place to a colder place. MPW/EQI

  4. Assignment : Heat energy and temperature The amount of heat energyin an object depends on three things: its temperature, its mass, and the material it is made from. A tank full of hot water at 60 °C contains more heat energy than a cup full of water at the same temperature because there is more water in it. A cup full of water at 50 °C contains less heat energy than the same mass of water at 100 °C because the water is at a lower temperature. MPW/EQI

  5. Key Questions 2. What is the difference between temperature and heat energy? The heat energy of an object depends on its temperature, its mass and its material. MPW/EQI

  6. Assignment : Heat energy and temperature 2 Look at the diagrams below and circle the one of each pair that has the most heat energy in it. In each case, explain your answer. a large bowl of porridge at 30 °C small bowl of porridge at 30 °C The bowl on the left has more mass. MPW/EQI

  7. Assignment : Heat energy and temperature 2 Look at the diagrams below and circle the one of each pair that has the most heat energy in it. In each case, explain your answer. b small pan of soup at 80 °C the same size pan of soup at 50 °C The pan on the left has a higher temperature. MPW/EQI

  8. Assignment : Heat energy and temperature 2 Look at the diagrams below and circle the one of each pair that has the most heat energy in it. In each case, explain your answer. c a small mug of coffee at 80 °C a large mug of coffee at 80 °C A larger mug has more mass MPW/EQI

  9. Assignment : Heat energy and temperature 2 Look at the diagrams below and circle the one of each pair that has the most heat energy in it. In each case, explain your answer. d a pot full of tea at 85 °C the same amount of tea at 95 °C The pot on the right is warmer. MPW/EQI

  10. Key Questions 3. What is the unit of heat energy? The unit of heat energy is the Joule. MPW/EQI

  11. Key Question 4. How does heat energy affect me? When a large mug takes longer to cool down than a small mug. It is the reason metal feels colder than wool. MPW/EQI

  12. Experiment : Heat energy and temperature thermometer beaker water • gauze • tripod • heatproof mat MPW/EQI
