External application driving the Wavecom device through the serial link Embedded Application Wavecom Core Software Overview • Software mechanism allowing a customer to embed a simple application into a Wavecom dual-band device* * WISMO2C, WISMO2C-2 (GSM), WISMO3, WMOi3, WMOD2B
Targeted markets • Potential users include integrators and application developers* in the field of: TELEMETRY AUTOMOTIVE FIXED TELEPHONY MULTIMEDIA * Candidates for the Open-AT must be experienced in C programming and AT commands
Interfaces • External interfaces available on the target hardware for the embedded application (via AT commands): • External modem: • RS232 serial signals (only available in Open-AT release #2) • Integrated modem: • GPIOs • keypad interface • serial signals (only available in Open-AT release #2) • SPI (LCD interface) (only available in Open-AT release #2) • Module: • GPIOs • keypad interface • buzzer • serial signals (only available in Open-AT release #2) • SPI (LCD interface) (only available in Open-AT release #2) Open-AT is almost appropriate for the integrated modem and module
Possible applications • TELEMETRY: Vending machines, utilities, alarm systems: • Transmission of data/SMS on hardware event or on a regular basis for alerting or for monitoring purposes. • Remote control of a system • AUTOMOTIVE: Consumer or professional car equipments: • Automatic and independent transmission of an SMS to a service center in case of emergency (crash, breakdown, theft,…). • Remote control of the car (for security or comfort purposes)
Possible applications • FIXED TELEPHONY: Wireless Local Loop phones, wireless public phones • Simple MMI and call management. • MULTIMEDIA: PDAs • Decoding of proprietary commands sent by the computing device processor to activate GSM operations. The embedded processing reduces the load of the main processor. • Autonomous processing of incoming GSM events. The main processor is awaken by the module only when necessary (to save battery).
Benefits For the targeted markets, Open-AT allows to independently: • Detect/alert • Count/monitor • Decode/process • Control Moreover, for these operations, the GSM unit can be remotely driven. Rmk: no delta approval shall be required to release an Open-AT based application (negociation to be done with ETS)
Benefits • Customer benefits Using the Open-AT, integrators and application developers can: • save external hardware (in case of simple applications): no need for additional microprocessor and memory cost reduction (valuable for TELEMETRY, AUTOMOTIVE) • use the GSM unit as a stand-alone emergency system better efficiency (valuable for AUTOMOTIVE) • quickly develop and test their application quicker time to market (valuable for TELEMETRY) • implement cooperation schemes between an external application and an embedded program better efficiency (valuable for MULTIMEDIA) • Wavecom benefits Open-AT is a • Unique facility differenciation • Cost/Time efficient solution customer acquisition • Wavecom specific facility customer loyalty
Product MIX: product Open-AT requires: • a Wavecom dual band product (programmed with an Open-AT compatible FW release): not part of the Open-AT offer. Remarks: • GSM / Open-AT require 16/2 Mb • GSM-GPRS / Open-AT require 32/4 Mb this configuration will not be proposed at the beginning The Open-AT product consists of: • a SDK including documentation, examples, tools and support. It shall be available on CD-ROM+paper doc and packaged in a specific box (with specific cover). Milestones: • End 03/01 (with FW version V420): 1st release not supporting the data service and the serial link management. Test version only (SDK not available): beta & pilot tests. • 06/01: promotion • 08/01 (with FW version V430): 2nd release supporting all the services + one additional interface (SPI I/F, to be confirmed). 1 month pilot tests before delivery. • 09/01: official release.
