About Huxley • Born July 26, 1894 • Died November 22, 1963, and was cremated • Son of Thomas Henry Huxley, a great biologist • Mother passed on from cancer when 14, this influenced is writing a lot. • Huxley came to the United States in 1937 and moved to Hollywood in 1938 and became a screenwriter.

  3. More About Huxley… • Wanted to study medicine, but this was prevented an eye ailment at 16 which almost blinded him • Graduated from Oxford University with honors • Studied literature while at Oxford. • Married Nys, a Belgein, in 1919, and had one child, Matthew Huxley in 1920

  6. A Great Author • The first book Huxley ever produced was a collection of poems in 1916. • Received an Award of Merit for Brave New World in 1959 • Over his long and extraordinary career, Huxley produced over 47 books

Huxley and Drugs • In the 1950’s Huxley became famous for his interest in psychedelic or mind expanding drugs like Mescaline and LSD. • Huxley wrote two books on his experiences taking Mescaline under supervision: • Doors of Perception (1954) • Heaven and Hell (1956) • The book Island was also centered around drugs and sanity, a novel that required 20 years of thouht and 5 years of writing. (1962)
