Why AGL participated in the EEO generators trail • AGL supports energy efficiency activities to both reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve business cost drivers throughout the economy. • AGL registered for EEO in 2010 (non-generation assets tripped the 0.5 PJ threshold for participation). • In 2011, AGL completed EEO assessments at Camden Gas Project and Hydrocarbon Extractions LPG Plant in NSW. • AGL is required to complete EEO assessments at a number of generation sites. The Torrens trial has been an opportunity for AGL to learn more about the EEO process directly from DRET. Energy Efficiency Opportunity 21 June 2012 AGL External

Process for Determining the Efficiency Opportunities • Develop and distribute background paper prior to EEO workshop • Provides business context, energy data and analysis, trends • Key information to guide identification of opportunities • EEO Workshop: • Break facility down into key sections: fuel, boiler, turbine(s) and condenser(s), auxilliaries, repowering (integration of new tech. with existing assets) • Call on diverse expertise of attendees to generate ideas for each section in turn • Screen ideas through each attendee nominating with set number of votes (number of ideas for section, divided by 3) • Ideas with highest votes considered for assessment phase – though no ideas excluded solely on votes Energy Efficiency Opportunity 21 June 2012 AGL External

Background paper • Developed prior to EEO workshop • Provides key information to inform the EEO workshop participants: • Energy consumption and production data • Trends • Correlations and key relationships • Major energy using equipment items • External market factors Data and analysis is required for the background paper and is also used for quantifying projects in assessment phase.
