Spine Progress R. Bates
Status • MT, PA, HGM and I visited IHEP (29/03/203) • Spine production explained • NIIGraphite • Produce raw TPG • NIITAP • Machine/polish and coat TPG • Produce all ceramic parts • IHEP • Assemble Spines (including washer at CERN) • Manage project in Russia • And production bottlenecks explained
Towards faster delivery • Two new contracts for spine production to finish by 1st Jan 2005 • NIIGraphite; cost = 19100USD • Increased TPG production • IHEP (subcontracts to NIITAP); cost = 31500USD • Increase Ceramic production, TPG polishing/machining • Increase spine assembly, including CERN based technician • Initial extra 7500USD then 3000USD for each month production over 200 spines
Some action so far • Regular phone meetings are held with IHEP • Better book keeping of spines at CERN • Greater understanding of bowed spines • Reduced spine damage in transport • More washer gluing jigs at CERN • Faster assembly at IHEP (double shifts) • New, fast, TPG production schedule produced by NIIGraphite • Slight change in machined section of spine to increase yield under investigation • Extra polishing equipment sourced at NIITAP • Last two points will increase yield and rate at NIITAP
Present delivery rates • Rates from database • Reason why NIKHEF is zero module production • Spine rate just matching present module rate • Falls short of desired module rate
