MEx/DALToolKit Hands on SessionImages & Spectra(ESO/ESA) Advisors: Bruno Rino (ESO) & Aurélien Stébé (ESA)
MEx - Summary Summary and Objective The scope of the first part of this shared session was the validation and description of inhomogeneous data in a homogenous way. The extracted metadata was then stored in a database, on top of which SIA and SSA services could be built. Main Steps: • Set up a database with SIA and SSA tables. • Map FITS keywords to metadata items: • Get a sample FITS header. • Define mapping. • Test mapping against the sample FITS header. • Apply mapping to all FITS files and ingest metadata into the database.
MEx - Remarks • Most participants managed to extract and ingest metadata using the sample data. • Some participants also tried to extract metadata for their own data. • Some installation problems, mostly mysql. • Mapping Editor can use some tweaks to make operating it more clear. • Modifying of metadata item definitions themselves not addressed. • A comment we received: The tutorial was easy and clear enough.
DALToolkit - Summary Summary and Objective The scope of this hands on session was to publish data according to the SSAP/SIAP standard. After the MEx session on ingesting data, participants were able to create a service on top of the database and register it in a test registry. Main Steps: • Environment set up. • DALToolkit configuration. • DALToolkit server deployment. • Service registration in test registry. • DALToolkit testing using Aladin.
DALToolkit - Remarks • All participants managed to deploy SIAP services and tested them using the web interface. • Some participants deployed SSAP services. • Registration of SIAP services into the local registry was finally possible. • Aladin used to display resulting images from SIAP services registered. • Few participants tried and managed to use their own data. • Ideas to improve the DALToolkit.
