  3. Role shifting… What’s its purpose? • To show relationship and interaction between 2 characters having a dialog.

  4. How to express Role Shifting • Index to establish placement of characters • Shift weight to right leg to represent the character placed to the right and look left and shift weight the left for character placed on the left and look right . • Example: • (r)- What is your name? • (l) My name is Gary. What is your name? • (r) My name is Sara • Gary: I your brother here? • Sara: No, he stayed home.

  5. Try this • Jim (right) • Joe (left) • Jim: How are you? • Joe: I am fine, how are you? • Jim: Do you like ASL class? • Joe: I do like ASL class. I have learned a lot. Have you learned a lot? • Jim: No, I don’t like my class. I can’t remember the vocabulary. • Joe: I can help you. Do you want to practice?
