Part 1 - What is Slavery? A slave is someone who is owned by another person. A slave has: No choice No freedom No money When we think of slavery today, we think of Black Africans: - they were captured, - they were sold into slavery and - they were taken to America to work in the cotton plantations in the Southern states. The first slaves arrived in America in 1619.
The Northern states’ economy was based on industries… … whereas the Southern states’ economy was based on agriculture. They needed workforce and used slaves to keep it unexpensive.

Black Africans are inferior to Whites and born to be slaves. All people should be equal. Without slaves, the southern economy would collapse. Slaves have to be punished. It’s what they understand You should pay your workers a wage. You cannot call yourself a good Christian if you keep slaves.
