Examination Workshop 30th March 2011, SLU Aims of today’s workshop The aimof today’s workshop is to deliver suggestions for the layout of SLU’sfuture PhD education. Please make suggestions based on your experiences, visions and the general examination goals. Ask yourself: Howcan the PhD student’sdevelopmenttowardsbeing an independent scientist be supported? Howcan the examination goals be assessedduring the PhD education? The mainfocus of today’s workshop is on the first half (up to 24 months) of the PhD education. Pleaseobserve that the questionsraisedbelowshould be answeredconsidering a ”normal” relationshipbetween supervisor and PhD student. Solutions for worstcase scenarios (e. g. when PhD student and supervisor havesevereconflicts and want to cancel the education) shall NOT be part of today’s workshop. Questions to answer(see Table provided) * Evaluation: Who willevaluate the performance of the PhD student? Howwill the assessment be performedtowards the examination goals? How and with whomwill the results of the assessment be communicated? Howwill the assessment be documented? ** Pedagogicalconsequences: If the assessmentidentifiesweaknessesin the PhD student’s performance: What are the pedagogicalconsequences? What kind of educational support can be provided in order to facilitate the PhD student’sdevelopment? Whattools and strategiescan the supervisor apply to support this development?
