  2. Topics • EA Management Guide (EAMG) Project Overview • Business Case for the EAMG Project • Approaches and Progress aeajournal.org

  3. EA Management Guide Project Overview • Purpose: Provide guidelines and references for enterprise architects by identifying and organizing EA knowledge and best practices along the life cycle of EA management. • Project Management: Led by a|EA’s EA Standards Committee • Objectives: • Complete an EA Management Guide (Version 1.0). • Establish the Guide as an a|EA standard. • Pursue acceptance with international standards organizations. • Target Timeline for the Guide: Nov 2005 – July 2007 aeajournal.org

  4. Business Case for the EA Management Guide • In the EA field, there is lack of consensus on EA concepts, theories, approaches, and best practices. Confusions and disagreements are widespread. For example: • What is enterprise architecture (The actual structure? The documentation and blueprints? A management process? A discipline?) • What makes a sound architecture? • How to architect an enterprise to reach architectural soundness? • Lack of consensus causes difficulty in judging the quality of EA. Consequently, the quality of EA suffers. • The EAMG development process will foster the EA evolution and standardization. The guide would improve: understanding, adoption, and quality of EA. It may also improve its standing with non-architects, i.e, be seen as more credible. aeajournal.org

  5. Approaches and Progress • Principles: Open participation; Transparent process; Consensus-building journey. • Team: Currently over 30 volunteers from 6 countries, representing practitioners and scholars with EA expertise in public and private sectors, civilian and military institutions, and different industries. • Progress in 2005: • Project initiated and planned. • Call for Participation distributed to the EA community. • The first stage, outline development, is underway. • Near term goal: distribute the outline draft to the EA community to Request for Comment in March, 2006 aeajournal.org

  6. Final Notes • Call for your support, input, and participation • Will answer questions offline • Contact Information • Haiping Luo (haiping@aeajournal.org) aeajournal.org
