3. Basic Approach to Develop the Outline • Collected 19 outlines from EA books, courses, documents, and team member input. There are more than 1,400 rows in total. • A consolidated structure based on the collections was developed. • The rows in the outline collections were mapped to the consolidated outline to ensure all EA aspects can be covered in the consolidated outline. aeajournal.org

The EA Management Reference System Explanation: • The System of the EA Management References comprises four types of components: the Guide, EA Handbooks, EA Standards, and Source Materials. • The EA Management Guide provides a high level summary of enterprise architecture knowledge and approaches. This is the scope of this project. • EA Handbooks to be developed in the future will provide detailed explanation for a specific area, such as “A Handbook for Security Architecture”, or an industry, such as “A Handbook for Applying Enterprise Architecture in the Transportation Industry”. Handbooks supplement the EA Management Guide. • EA Standards to be identified from external standards or developed by a|EA will provide technical specifications. Handbooks and the Guide will refer to Standards for specifications. • All three levels of components may refer to source materials such as a book or a journal article. aeajournal.org

6. Key Distinctions • The EAMG Outline makes two basic distinctions: • Distinguish an architecture from the documentation of the architecture. • Distinguish the goal, improving the actual architecture, from the means, producing good architectural documentations and blueprints. aeajournal.org
