Ephesians: 5:1-21 GET SOME EXERCISE, but be careful • Be imitators of God v. 1 • Imitate—strive to copy God • like good children • Walk in love (sacrificially) v. 2 • Copy Christ— His Love was sacrificial—offering himself for you • Be a fragrant aroma to God Gen. 8:21; Exodus 29 •  Walk in the light v. 3-14 • Not like the sons of disobedience— immoral, impure, greedy, filthiness, silly talk, coarse jesting • Having no inheritance in the kingdom • Don’t walk in or with darkness • Walk like copies of the light (which you are) • Sons of light— goodness, righteousness, truth, pleasing to the Lord, exposer of darkness

Arise—walk the life of Christ—in the light Rom. 13:11 • Walk wisely and carefully v. 15-21 • Be wise • Use all your time wisely, the days are evil Gal. 6:10 • Don’t be foolish—understand the Lord’s will Romans 1:21-22 • Do not get drunk with wine, but be filled in the Spirit • Be being kept filled—conscious continuation pleroo • Speak to one another in spiritual songs • Make melody in your heart to the Lord • Give thanks for all things—to God • Be subject to one another • Give accountability over to other believers

EPH 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. • EPH 4:1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, • EPH 4:17 ¶ So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, • EPH 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. • EPH 5:8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light • EPH 5:15 ¶ Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,

Ephesians 5:22-33 Be subject to one another • Being subject one to the other requires v. 21 • Being humble • Being humble requires • being filled with the Spirit • being filled with the Spirit requires • Relationship to God through Christ • Obedience to God’s commands • Love for God and others • Turning over one’s will over to God • Unity • Separation from the world • Light • Wisdom • Submission

  5. Wives v. 22-24 • Subject Matter, cause it matters to God • to your husband only! • Submissive Manner—as to the Lord • this is that imitation thing • Submissive Motive • following a structure that is God given • Submissive Model • Christ Jesus, as sacrificial Savior

Husbands v. 25-33 • Love your wife! • Model-sacrificial • Like Christ loved the Church • Giving up everything for her • Manner of Love • Purifying love • Caring love • Unbreakable love • Loving her like ones own body • Nourished and cherished • Motive • Imitating Christ our example • Men—love your wives—like yourself • Women—Respect your husbands
