NSSDC Deep Archive / PDS4/CDs-DVDs/Hard-Copy Archive 28 August 2012 Dave Williams
PDS4 and NSSDC Some Questions (Not to be answered now!) • Will PDS4 Data Sets have unique identifiers? (i.e. Will every change made to a data set result in a new version number?) • Will Checksums be required or optional? (Separate files delivered with data sets?) • What will a delivery “package” look like? • Will existing PDS3 data sets be delivered as PDS4 and will there be a timetable for this? • How long will the period of concurrent PDS3 and PDS4 deliveries last?
CD-ROMs / DVDs • NSSDC currently holds multiple copies of CD-ROM and DVD sets (originally for distribution). • One copy of each volume is stored in our archive. • Many of these sets have been replaced by newer versions now stored as AIPs. • So what do we do with the CD-ROMs and DVDs that have been superseded? What is PDS doing with theirs?
NSSDC Hard-Copy Archive • The Press Release Photograph collection has been inventoried and is being sent to NARA. • Disposition of the planetary film collection is awaiting NARA negotiations with Johnson and JPL. Moving it offsite will be expensive. • The disposition of the microfilm/microfiche collection is still under discussion.
