Ultimately, you will utilize these skills concurrently (all at the same time). however, today, we are going to practice them individually. CCSS 1-3 Why is the author writing this piece? What is he or she trying to say about the world, society, or people? How does the author present his or her characters? How do characters interact throughout the story? How do specific events in the story change a character? Etc… CCSS 4-6 How does the structure of the text contribute to the meaning of the text? How does the author tell his or her story? Does the author use a lot of figurative language (similes, metaphors, etc…)? How do these affect the story? What point of view does the author utilize? How does this impact the story? How would the story be different if the author chose a different point of view? CCSS 4-6 How does the structure of the text contribute to the meaning of the text? CCSS 7 and 9 How is a fictional portrayal similar to or different from a historical portrayal of the same time period? How does the story compare or contrast to its audio, staged, film, etc… version? How are the ideas, themes, patterns of events, and character types similar to other works, both past and present? What common themes are presented in both works?

  3. Reread Paragraph 1 Focus on: Craft and Structure CCSS 7.4-7.6 How does the author tell his or her story? Does the author use a lot of metaphors and similes? How do these affect the story? What point of view does the author utilize? How does this impact the story? How would the story be different if the author chose a different point of view? etc…
