How pathogens travel • Air: Many viruses (such as the cold and influenza) and some bacteria travel by air • Food: Many bacteria and many viruses spread through contaminated food and water • Contact: Sexual contact and fluid exchange (sharing needs) spreads disease
How viruses infect • Viruses are much much smaller than cells and bacteria • They infect their host by grabbing on the cells and injecting their genetic information • Then they duplicate themselves in the Cell and burst out as hundreds
