Reaction Chemistry • HCl + NaHCO3 -> NaCl + H20 + CO2 • 12.5 mol HCl /1000ml = .125 mol HCl /10ml • PV=NRT • P=6 ATM V= .7L N= X Mols R= .08205 K Mol/L ATM • N=RT/PV mol= 6ATMx.7L/.08205 K Mol/L ATM x293K N=.1747 mol • .125 mol HCl /10ml = .1747mol HCl /14ml • .1747mol BS x 84g/mol BS = 14.675 g BS • We used 12 g BS and 14 HCL so that BS is limiting reactant • 12g BS = .1428 mol BS • P= .1428mol CO2 x .08205 K Mol/L ATM x 293K/ .7L = 5 ATM max in bottle.
Conclusion • We conclude that our reaction could have been increased by adding more Baking Soda to the amount of HCl we were using in the reaction. If we increased the total pressure the car should have move farther. We used a nozzle so that the pressure leaving the bottle would be higher and move the car farther, but this didn’t work.
