Importance for Austrian Institutions • Substantial contribution towards the Europeanisation & Internationalisation of HE • Competition with other European (and worldwide) providers will become tougher in future • Challenge for the future: to reduce the gap between the existing legal framework and reality. Legal Framework • Amendment of University Studies Act in 1999 • Introduction of a new Universities Act in 2002 • This act created the legal basis for all Bologna items such as • Bachelor and master programmes • ECTS • Diploma supplement • Joint and double degrees Ulrich Hörmann, Kick-off Meeting, Croatia for Bologna, 14 January 2005
