  1. The Need for English Language Training in Jerusalem

  2. Introduction • Jerusalem is the largest city in Israel and also its capital. • Being an internationally famous city, Israel has a large number of English-speaking population. • This is because many schools and colleges in Israel use English as a primary language for education.

  3. English Education • Along with Hebrew, English serves as a widespread medium of teaching in Israel. • This is so that those who grew up outside Israel and decided to return would have easier time picking up a language they know while learning Hebrew as well. • Many English teachers come from abroad to teach English in Israel.

  4. Speaking English in Jerusalem • Jerusalem gets thousands of international tourists every year. • English as a means of communication among locals makes it easier for tourists to get along during their stay in Jerusalem. • This is because most of them have either learnt English in schools or have learnt it from other English-speaking associates.

Need for English in Israel • There are a couple of reasons why learning English is beneficial for locals. • One of the reasons is easier communication with foreign tourists and visitors. • Another important reason is it helps them get by whenever they travel to a English-speaking country such as US. • These two points are discussed in more detail in the following two slides.

Teaching English in Jerusalem • While many teachers are of local origin, schools and colleges are open to accepting foreign nationals as English teachers. • This allows those schools/colleges to have a native English speaker. • This also means students are exposed to teachers with a natural command over the language.

Communicating With Tourists • Knowing how to speak English allows locals to communicate with foreign visitors. • This allows them to get more up and personal with locals and get better travel tips and recommendations. • This also means English-speaking locals can make new friends with those who don’t speak Hebrew.

  8. A Language Advantage When Travelling Abroad • If you know how to speak English, it will be much easier to travel abroad. • Whether it be for work or just a tour, knowing English can help you get around and talk to locals much easily. • This is also beneficial for those Israelis who are looking to move to a different country.
