1. Movie NIGHT Friday, 2nd March 5.45 p.m. for 6.00 p.m. start - £2.50 per child or £5.00 per family to include popcorn and a drink. Movie to be shown will be Tangled. Pre-school children welcome with an accompanying adult. If you book after school club children can go straight on to the film show Easter Fair! This will take place on Friday 23rd March, from 3.10pm. We would be very grateful for donations of: Good quality books and DVD’s (no toys or videos). Raffle prizes. Cakes, small and large. Items for the chocolate tombola. Donations may be brought into school now – cakes may be brought into school week commencing 19th March Offers of help would be greatly appreciated – helpers list will be placed on the parents’ board a few weeks before the Easter Fair takes place. Did you know that PTFA monies have been used for: Transport to the Pantomime/Residential Trips/Class Trips + the Christmas Party and Disco/Purchase of Library Books/Books for Year 6 pupils leaving school/Purchase of the new Purple Mash computer software which will be available at home and that the PTFA also organise the Pet Show, Fireworks Event, Christmas and Easter Fairs and the Pancake Party. Half-Term Holiday Half-Term break from Monday 13th February to Tuesday 21st February (this includes an Inset Day on Monday 20th February). May I take this opportunity to wish you a very happy holiday. Staunton Times Frenchay Hospital We raised £402.59 for Frenchay Hospital to acknowledge their care for Joseph Merrin. Joseph Merrin I am pleased to be able to report that Joseph is making good progress. After spending months in hospital he has at last spent a weekend at home which he loved. He is doing well in his wheelchair and the hospital are concentrating on getting him standing and walking. Keep going Joseph (and the rest of the family) our thoughts and prayers are with you. 2. Staunton Times Match against Pauntley C of E Primary School On the 25th of January Staunton & Corse played Pauntley School away. Staunton played their best but they lost 4-1. We were very unlucky because Jack Blackwell hit the crossbar and post twice and Finlay Newbould hit the post. Our goal was scored by Joshua Kell. We all were very proud of our selves, even though we lost. Class Four Wormery Fun! Last week Class 4 put together a wormery with the help of a lady who came in called Hannah. She brought in her own wormery which had tiger worms in. We put our wormery together with 3 plastic layers and a tap to pour in the worm tea (produced by worms eating). We will use the wormery to fertilize the garden. Reporters: Joshua Solomon and Justin Wills Football Reporters – Elliot Finch (Captain) and Finlay Newbould Maths Enrichment Pupils from Y5/6 joined our academy partners and met to participate in a maths enrichment session kindly led by Mr Tibbles from Highnam . They enjoyed a Maths 24 Challenge and also worked in small groups and solved a tricky maths problem. (Here Megan Rayner is happy to share her group’s solution) (Megan Rayner-Staunton Academy/William Samson-Redmarley Academy/Leon Levell-Highnam Academy) A D We are opening a new baby and toddler group called “Tiny Oaks”, starting Monday, 5th March at Staunton & Corse C of E Academy. It will be held in the same room as playgroup and after School Club. Our aim is to be a friendly group where mums, dads, grandparents and carers can come with their children age 0 to school age, running once a week for a couple of hours allowing them to socialise and for their children to enjoy a safe environment to play and learn. We have a safe and comfortable baby play area as well as plenty of toys for toddlers and an outside play area. Tiny Oaks will run from 9.30 a.m. every Monday during term time (when school is open). Our sessions will include crafts for the children, story time and singing, treasure baskets and heuristic play. The first session is free and then £1.00 per family, this includes a drink and biscuits for adults and snacks and drink for the children. Please come and join us at our OPENING PARTY to see what our sessions will offer – this will be held on Monday, 27th February between 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. – all are welcome! F I R S T We have noticed that we are sending injury notes home on a frequent basis. I would like to trial the following system: A child with a graze or plaster etc from a trip or fall will have the injury logged in school, but we will not send a note home. Any more serious or unusual incidents will result in your child receiving a note. However, if we feel that it is particularly important for you to monitor your child’s health we will send a text message or speak directly to you. I would appreciate feedback about this trial.
