INTRODUCTION The Business Development and Education Committee performs the following duties: - • Coordinates the business strategy and marketing of the Society • Undertakes assessment of education and training needs of the members, staff and Board of Directors; • Organizes education and training for members, staff and Board of Directors. • Spearheads the CSR agenda for the society

Role of a Member of Kimisitu Meets obligation of regular monthly contributions and loan repayments. Patronizes Kimisitu products . Markets Kimisitu to colleagues and other non member organizations. Participates in Kimisitu events such as AGM, education days, Ushirika days, CSR activities. Participates in product surveys and customer satisfaction surveys. Keeps track of your contributions and loan repayments. Promotes and protects Kimisitu’s image. Provides feedback for continued service improvement.
Rights of a member Every KIMISITU member is entitled to: Receive or access periodically and regularly, or upon request, and at least once in six months, a Statement of Accounts containing the individualized record of his/her credit and debit transactions. Attend and participate in elections and general meeting. Each member shall have one vote irrespective of the member’s total share and deposit holding. Elect or be elected as a Board or Supervisory Committee member of the Society unless otherwise prohibited by any other Law or KIMISITU Sacco By-laws.
Rights of a Member, Continues... Use the Society services according to the Policies and Procedures approved by the Board of Directors. Submit projects or initiatives to the Board of Directors, for the improvement of the Society Services. Appoint a nominee. Share in surpluses. Access all legitimate information relating to the society at the registered office of the society subject to the Society policy and regulations. Vote on all matters put before the general meeting. All other rights as prescribed by the Co-operatives Act and Rules.
Membership qualification Is not less than 18 years of age Is of good character Is an employee of the society or a subsidiary of the society Will accept to be guaranteed for loans Is not a member of another salary-based Sacco in the country Has regular income from employment, business or trade Is in employment, occupation or profession which falls within the category of NGOs , international organizations Embassies and High commissions and allied sectors Is a spouse of a member admitted into membership subject to terms and conditions set by the Board of directors and approved by general meeting Pays prescribed entrance fees and the minimum prescribed shares and deposits Accepts objectives of the society, the obligations of members and other conditions set by by-laws

Marketing We encourage all members to take an active role in marketing Kimisitu and its products. This will lead to growth and profitability of the Sacco. This can be done by referring your colleagues and other organizations to Kimisitu. The marketing department conducts member education programs for organizations on regular basis. Election of Board of Directors Eligibility and ineligibility: • One has to have been an active member for immediate 24 months before elections • No member shall be eligible to be elected to the board if he/she • Is not a member of the Society • Is under 18 years • Has not attained post secondary qualification or its recognized equivalent • Receives any remuneration, salary or other payment from the society other than approved allowances • Is a board member in another salary-based SACCO Society • Lends money on his own account • Is an undischarged bankrupt • Has been involved in financial malpractices.
Election of Board of Directors cont.. • Is not of sound mind • Has been adversely named by the commissioner or authority in an inquiry report adopted by a general meeting for mismanagement or corrupt practices while a member of the Board of any SACCO or body • Has been convicted of any offence under the Act or Rules • Is a person against whom any amount of money is due under decree, decision or order or is pending recovery under the Act • Is a member of an existing Board and becomes delinquent and doesn’t rectify the default within 90 days • Does not conform to minimum qualification standards established by the board from time to time • TheBoard of Directors of the Society shall be elected for a term of three(3) years subject to 1/3 rd retiring annually except the chairman, the vice chairman who shall retire at the end of the year. All retiring members shall be eligible for re election
Cessation of Board/RC membership Elected members of the Board may be removed only by two thirds majority members of the society present and voting at a general meeting If during the term of office a vacancy occurs in the board, the board may co-opt a member of the society to serve on the board until the next general meeting of the society. The elected Board members shall comply with the Board charter which shall define roles and functions of the board, conduct, qualifications and experience of the members of the board and board committees If a member of the board fails to attend three consecutive meetings without acceptable reasons or otherwise fail to perform his duties in his position as a board member, the board of directors may co-opt a member into the board after his removal. Where a member of the Board is out of station for 6 months or more and is therefore unable to perform his duties, his position may be declared vacant A person elected as a delegate or into the board of National Co-operative Organization or Apex Society on the basis of his elected position shall cease being a member of the Apex Society or National Co-operative Organization in the subsequent AGM upon ceasing to be a board member of the Society
