Joachim's Early Life • He was born in Wesel, Germany on April 30th 1893. • Was the son to an Army officer and in a middle class family
Early Careers • Around 1910 he worked for the Molson’s Bank in Canada • Shortly after working in Canada he moved to the US and worked as a journalist in Boston and New York • In 1914, Joachim came back to Germany to fight for his country in World War I
Involvement in WWI • Joined the 125th Regiment of the Hussars • Reached the rank of 1st Lieutenant • Was awarded the Iron Cross • Was seriously wounded nearing the end of the war
Joining the Nazi Part • Joachim joined the NSDAP in 1932 • He quickly moved up the hierarchy • In 1933 he became Hitler’s foreign affairs advisor • In August 1936, he was appointed the Ambassador to Britain
Family Life • Joachim married Anna Elisabeth Henkell of July 5, 1920. • Together they have 5 kids. • Rudolf (1921) • Bettina (1922) • Ursula (1932) • Adolf (1935) • Barthold (1940)
Involvement in the SS • Joachim von Ribbentrop became a Oberfuehrer and soon after a Gruppenfuehrer in 1938 • Soon after he became a Obergruppenfueher, one of the highest ranks you can get in the SS • Being this mean the was a district leader
Trial and Execution • Ribbentrop was tried with the other Nazi leaders at the Nuremberg Trials • His IQ was 129, 10th highest among Nazi leaders • He was found guilty of being involved and supporting sending Jews to concentration camps.
Final Words • Before placing the bag over his head, the executioner asked if he had any last wishes. • Joachim von Ribbentrop replied, “God protect Germany. God have mercy on my soul. My final wish is that Germany should recover her unity and that, for the sake of peace, there should be understanding between East and West.” - Joachim von Ribbentrop
