Different types of seed dispersal • Dispersal by water • Dispersal by wind • Dispersal by splitting/explosion • Dispersal by animals
Dispersal by water • The seeds are encased in a with a fibrous husk • The fibrous husk traps air which helps the fruit to float on water as it is light
Dispersal by wind • The seed has a wing-like structures or feathery structures, which are lightweight • The seed’s structure allows it to drift away from it’s parents plant • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYEUoSQXdcE
Dispersal by animals • The seeds can hook onto the fur of passing animals and be carried to other places • The seeds are light and a hook-like structure • Animals would eat the fruits, swallow the seeds and pass them out as droppings
Dispersal by splitting/explosion • Seeds dispersed by splitting often grow in pods • They would split open when ripe • The force would fling the seeds out and scatter them
