  1. SEED DISPERSAL BY THE HOT CHILLIES

  2. OUR PROBLEM The P5 pupils went on a Learning Journey to Little India. A group of pupils spotted a young plant growing from a crack in the building while taking photographs of some buildings. “How did the plant get there?” wondered Peter. “A bird carried the seed there,” said Fatimah. “The seed flew there,” said Bala. “Someone climbed up the wall and planted the seed there,” said Mei Chin. The pupils were curious to find out how the plant could grow in the crack in the wall.

  3. THE SOLUTION The solution is SEED DISPERSAL BY WIND. Let me show you a plant that does seed dispersal by wind. This plant is called Dandelion. It is dispersed by wind as it is light and have a wing-like structure. The seeds are the white colour thingy in this picture.

  4. ABOUT WIND DISPERSAL They have many types of wind dispersal like: Gliders, Parachutes, Helicopters(Whirlybirds), Flutterers or Spinners, Cottony Seeds and Fruits, Miscellaneous and more. The dandelions uses the method Parachutes. They have puff-like cluster of numerous parachute seeds. Each achene has an umbrella–like crown of plumose hairs and may literally be carried into the atmosphere by strong ascending air currents. An achene means any small, dry, hard, one-seeded, indehiscent fruit.

  5. PLANTS THAT DOES WIND DISPERSAL Salt Cedar Flowers Shorea Angsana Grass fruit Epilobium Samara Plant Horn Beam

  6. SO….. The pupil who had got the right answer is Bala. His prediction was “The seed flew there,” said Bala.

  7. FUN FACTS Some seeds are carried to a new place by the wind. These seeds are very light. The seeds of the orchid are almost as fine as dust. Many have hairy growths which act like little parachutes and carry the seeds far away from the parent plant. The seeds of the dandelion are carried by the wind.

  8. QUIZTIME!!!!

  9. QUESTIONS 1)Name 3 types of plant that does wind dispersal? 2)Name 2 types of wind dispersal? 3)Name the characteristics of the seed which aid in its dispersal? 4)Name any other types of method than the wind dispersal method? (own knowledge) 5) Recite your acrostic poem that you created(for fun). (BONUS?)

  10. THE END!!! HOPE YOU ENJOY THE PRESENTATION!!! AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION!!
