Since the arrival of digital media, the realm of photographic imagery has expanded, with cameras inside telephones, images transmitted across the internet, and the entire planet photographed and made available free-of-charge on Google. Every 2 minutes today we snap as many photos as the whole of humanity took in the 1800s. In fact, ten percent of all the photos we have were taken in the past 12 months. We now take 4 times as many photos as 10 year ago.

THE FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA - 1975 It captured images using a CCD imager and digitized and stored the digital info on a standard audio cassette. It took 23 seconds to record the digitized image to the cassette.

Chris Dorley-Brown, The Face of 2000 Setting up a mini studio in in the village of Haverhill in rural England, Dorley-Brown made 2000 portraits on a Nikon digital camera over a three month period in the summer of 2000. Using computer software such as Photoshop and Morph, the photographs were then merged to create a composite portrait of a whole village.
