What are the relevant issues with regard to housing for the “architectural profession”, today? In which ways can “technology” be a driving force for the transformation of housing, today?
“If architects want to be relevant in the future they have to concentrate on the roots of their profession. There is an enormous study still to be done about flexible construction systems, new climate concepts and relevant building methods. Architects have to become again engineers who offer a tool instead of fixed formal exercises. The question for the future is to create flexible, neutral structures that can resist and allow continuous changes.” An architect is in the position to changesituations, hecanalsomodify the waypeoplethinkaboutseveral types of housing Neutralidadespecifica, unmanifiestosobrenuevaviviendacolectiva, a+t 20 2002
Whatwillbe important in the future, is the way we buildurbanhouses. Therewillbedemographicchangeswho blow up the structure of society, so the architect must thinkabout the housingfor all different kinds of peoplewhowillbe living in anurban environment. Daekwon Park created symbiotic interlock “to reunite the isolated city blocks and insert a multi-layer network of public space, green space and nodes for the city”. It comprises a system of stackable modules that are designed to add an extra layer of infrastructure to existing buildings via sky docks and bridges, vertical gardens, cultural spaces, and energy producing wind turbines. It addresses some of the shortcomings of green roofs by internalizing green environments within its biomorphic structure while contributing functionality, energy, and food. It may not have beaten the competition, but its symbiotic integration with existing buildings struck us as a brilliant brand of future-forward thinking within the present era. Inhabitat.com
