  3. What is it? • Service Tax Registration is a tax registration required for businesses providing services in India. It is an indirect tax where the service provider pays the tax and recovers the same from the recipient of the taxable service. • It is mandatory for every business in India to register for service tax if its taxable service exceeds Rs.9 lacs, in the previous financial year. Failure to obtain service tax registration may result in penalty according to section 77 of the Finance Act, 1994.
