Transport Projects Buenos Aires Subway Expansion • Country: Argentina • Borrower: Government of the City of Buenos Aires • Project: US$ 2.5 billion • IDB Loan: US$ 1.5 billion • Objective: Expansion of existing subway lines; construction of new subway lines; provision of rolling stock and signaling equipment. • Description: The IDB is in the process of approving a technical cooperation operation to carry out the technical studies that will determine the expansion strategy for the Buenos Aires subway system. An ensuing loan operation should be forthcoming in 2009.
Transport Projects Sao Paulo Metro System • Country: Brazil • Borrower: Government of the State of Sao Paulo • IDB Loan: US$ 168 million • Objective: Expansion of existing metro lines; provision of new rolling stock and signaling equipment. • Description: The IDB is in the process of approving a loan operation to provide new rolling stock and signaling equipment for Line C of the CPTM, and to carry out feasibility studies for extension of Line 5 of the METRO.
Transport Projects Brasilia Light Rail System • Country: Brazil • Borrower: Government of the Federal District • IDB Loan: US$ 140 million • Objective: To plan, design, build and provide the necessary equipment for the first line of a new light rail transit system in Brasilia. • Description: The IDB has a strong working relationship with the GDF, most recently financing the development of a BRT project linking the Plano Piloto with neighboring settlements. The LRT system would complement the BRT lines, providing efficient movement within the Plano Piloto.
Transport Projects Bogotá Metro System • Country: Colombia • Borrower: Government of the City of Bogotá • IDB Loan: Up to US$ 2.5 billion • Objective: To plan, design, build and provide the necessary equipment for the first line of the Bogota Metro System. • Description: The IDB will be providing technical support during the planning and design stages and should finance construction works and equipment provision.
Transport Projects Port of Montevideo Modernization Program • Country: Uruguay • Borrower: Government of Uruguay • IDB Loan: US$ 40 million • Objective: Dredging activities to increase the depth of its access channel and docking areas; construction of a new multipurpose pier. • Description: The IDB is in the process of approving a loan operation to finance the activities described above.
Transport Projects Puerto Cortes Expansion • Country: Honduras • Borrower: National Ports Authority • IDB Loan: US$ 240 million • Objective: Construction and equipment of a specialized container terminal; construction of an organic bulk terminal; and, replacement of old equipment at existing berths. • Description: The IDB, through its Structured and Corporate Financing Department, is conducting the due diligence process to finance the activities described above.
Energy Projects National Electricity Administration Multiphase Power Transmission Program Phase I • Country: Paraguay • Borrower: ANDE • Project Cost: US$106M • IDB Loan: US$64M (in execution) • Description: the purpose of the project is to meet the growing demand for electricity by expanding and upgrading the transmission grids, reducing loss levels, and supporting actions to modernize the National Electricity Administration (ANDE)
Energy Projects Norte Grande Electricity Transmission Program • Country: Argentina • Borrower: Republic of Argentina • Project Cost: US$725M • IDB Loan: US$518M (in execution) • Description: The program will finance a 1,220-km 500kV electric power transmission line, linking the northwest and northeastern regions of Argentina (NOA-NEA line); provincial and regional transmission and subtransmission works, including transformer stations, and ancillary works as part of the Norte Grande Development and Integration Program. The primary objective of the program is to strengthen the national electric power transmission grid and to spur competition in wholesale generation.
Energy Projects First Electric Power Development Program 2008-2011 • Country: Costa Rica • Borrower: Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) • Project Cost: US$311.7M • IDB Loan: US$250M (in execution) • Description: The goal of the CCLIP and of the first program this credit line would fund is to further Costa Rica’s economic growth and competitiveness and enhance societal wellbeing. The objective is to supply the mounting demand for electric power, maintaining a reasonably priced, reliable supply of electricity of acceptable quality.
