Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. Matt. 5:11-12  “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Psa. 73:23-24  Nevertheless, I am continually with you;    you hold my right hand. 24You guide me with your counsel,    and afterward you will receive me to glory. Rom. 8:18  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. ESV

  5. Hope and the Cross • Be like Jesus Phil. 2:5-8 • Following his footsteps 1 Pet. 2:19-21 • Suffering with Christ Rom. 8:16-17 1 Pet. 2:19-21  For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. 20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. Phil. 2:5-8  Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Rom. 8:16-17  The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
