Values • Our curriculum was practice relevant • Curriculum revision was necessary for all qualifications, majors and papers • An excellent MBA, some excellent majors and papers • There is always potential for papers to be “off brand” – the unwritten curriculum © THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO • TE WHARE WANANGA O WAIKATO
Our Academic office was and is foundational Curriculum review engaging stakeholders A School champion Excellent new cases and learning experiences The Hopuhopu MBA We have been slow to leverage student motivation and maintaining momentum Pedagogical challenges are great Method © THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO • TE WHARE WANANGA O WAIKATO
Research • A robust foundation of sustainability research • “profiling research” – via sustainability research reports, research events (symposia/conferences) and community engagement • Addressing the challenges – funding follows • Judiciously using seed monies • Honouring excellence • Publications of enduring worth and of immediate value • The on-going temptation to seek “easy” money, papers or academic status © THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO • TE WHARE WANANGA O WAIKATO
A beginning with friends We began conversations and focused our existing conversations We learnt that in some domains business had progressed ahead of the University! We built relevant research and education programmes with corporations, business networks and Māori institutions – to co-create cultural, economic, environmental and social value On-going challenge to increase high quality partnerships Partnership © THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO • TE WHARE WANANGA O WAIKATO
Dialogue • We began with a reputation for being at the “leading edge” • Demanding conversation developed amongst academic and students • We participated in major public conversations about genetic modification, reducing agricultural pollution, resolving “Treaty” concerns • We had a foundational role in APABIS • There are great opportunities for a more purposeful engagement with the media © THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO • TE WHARE WANANGA O WAIKATO
