  5. BUCS Sports Programmes Delivering sporting programmes across 50 sports to all 161 BUCS institutions Competition Team Comprehensive Wednesday Afternoon team sport programme. Event Team Series of over 100 Individual National Championships. Delivering major events. BUCS Surf Championships. Big Wednesday BUCS Gatorade Nationals Sport Managers Developing specific strategic direction for all BUCS sanctioned sports. Creation of Sports Advisory Groups (SAG)

BUCS Sport Development • Sport Development Team (6) • Created in partnership with and funded by Sport England (4). • Football Development Team – created in partnership with and funded by The FA (2). • 2013 onwards… • A continuation of Sport England Funding • A new Sport Development Strategy – 3 key focuses • ● Advocating for, and influencing, the role of sport within HE and of HE within sport • ● Developing mutually beneficial relationships between NGBs and the HE sector • ● Support HEIs to develop their sporting offer, and the sharing of best practice

BUCS Sport Development • Football • FA funded – responsible for delivery HE elements of the FA National Game Strategy • ● Focus on participation opportunities through Mars Just Play Festivals • ● Developing Referee hubs to build, train and develop a workforce • ● BUCS Football Futures Programme – working with national, regional and local partners to provide students with volunteering opportunities and placements • Disability • Delivery on 2 levels • ● Strategic delivery to support accessible opportunities on campus • ● Integrating competitive disability sport within the BUCS programme (Into Inclusion)

BUCS International Programmes • Four key objectives : • To regularly achieve GB post holders at World and European level in multi and single sport political, medical, and technical roles within university sport (FISU, EUSA and ENAS) – 11 individuals in post • To host one European or World level championship every 2 years, and one political meeting or educational event every 4 years – 7 events hosted since 2002 • To work within FISU/EUSA/ENAS and UK Sport international development opportunities to offer select groups of students an opportunity to take on international leadership and volunteering roles, as part of a BUCS Leadership Programme – new Leadership Programme to be launched in 2013 • To work with NGBs and UK Sport to maintain opportunity to send fully and professionally supported GB university teams to world-level events as part of the performance pathway – see next slide
