  2. Moraine Valley Community College Moraine Valley Community College has been providing exceptional education for 45 years to the 26 Chicago communities in our district. With an enrollment of more than 36,000 credit and noncredit students annually, Moraine Valley is the second largest community college in Illinois. More than 50,000 degrees and certificates have been granted to Moraine Valley graduates since the college opened. Moraine Valley’s 115 degree and certificate programs prepare students for transfer to a four-year college or to train them for new careers. According to Community College Week’s annual “Top 100 Associate Degree Producers Report,” the college is in the top 3 percent in degrees conferred among the nation’s 1,132 community colleges and third in the multi-interdisciplinary studies (science transfer) associate’s degree category. Moraine Valley offers an array of support services to ensure our students’ success, as well as numerous extracurricular activities to enhance their educational experience and positively change their lives. Our Innovators Emily My name is Maha Sweis- Dababneh, I am from Jordan, I finished my high school education and attended Education School at the University of Jordan where I completed my BA, MA, and I attended Amman Arab University for Graduate Studies where I completed my Ph.D. degree. I moved to the United States 2006. I started teaching Arabic Language at Moraine Valley Community College, and DePaul University 2007. For me, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning the Arabic language in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. Teaching the Arabic Language has become a passion of mine. I take great pride when I see my students advancing and reaching their goals in learning the Language.   4. Teaching Tools and Ideas for Online Language Courses: How I Created an Online Arabic Language Class I developed an online Arabic Language 101 course, which is a challenge for many reasons. The Arabic script is written in a cursive style, Arabic Language is written from right to left, Arabic letters are connected in both print and handwriting, letters have slightly different shapes depending on where they take place in a word, and in general Arabic sound use a wider range of mouth and throat. This course included a series of videos and audios using a lot of technology tool, one of them I used “Smart Pen”, which allowing me to record everything I say or writes. Those clips are linked to course documents that students can then follow. Another tool I used was a Ning website, which is an online destination where students can submit photos, videos, homework, and blog posts.
