Quick overview of the IUG • Opening • Keynote presentation • 2010 Crystal Award Winners Honoured
Quick overview of the IUG • No conference bags, BYO bags • European delegates missing due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland • Over 1,100 library professionals from eighteen countries participated in over 120 sessions presented by their colleagues and by staff from Innovative. • Good idea for us to have photos of AIUG Steering Committee with a blurb about their background • Quick Hits Theater – a series of 10-15 minutes presentations by III Staff
Questions for Innovative What is the expected timeframe for delivering the ability to customise Encore. This was originally supposed to be delivered with Encore 3.0, but we’re now up to Encore 4.0 with no sign of it.
Response from Innovative Each release of Encore continues to expand the customization options available to Libraries. Encore libraries continue to have a selection of default looks and feels, including Classic, Pearl, and the new Citrus look available with Encore 4.0, in general release now! Innovative is also developing an additional look and feel which fundamentally streamlines the layout, reducing the metadata displayed for each record in the browse, and moving from a 3-column to a 2-column layout (see screen shot below). In addition, Encore 4.0 introduces a new footer area which allows libraries to insert additional links, navigation, and even a Meebo online reference application to every Encore screen. Libraries continue to have the ability to alter CSS parameters such as background color to match institutional styles, and to enable or disable specific components or individual facets. As Encore moves forward, Innovative is planning the following additional customization initiatives:1) adding the ability embed external applications or Javascript in the Encore screens2) inclusion of "toplogo" files in the Encore interface3) creating a pool of development partners who will have direct access to the style sheets underlying the interface, so that alterations to layout, positioning of components etc will be under the Library's control. Innovative will work directly with this small group of libraries to ensure local customization is not compromised by software upgrades and programmatic changes to the interface such as new features. 4) working with development partners on the Query API, an Encore product which delivers all of Encore's "under the hood" power, including indexing, relevance sorting, and finding tools such as Did You Mean?, while allowing the Library to fully customize the front end. In this way, a Library can have complete control over the interface while still benefiting from the sophisticated indexing and other tools.
Questions for Innovative • At the coordinators meeting at AIUG last year, the group raised the issue of notification from Innovative when they are working on our systems. Betsy assured us that she would take this back as an issue but there has been no improvement. • Could they implement a log of every time Innovative login to our system that is available to us? The helpdesk has this information already so they could just make it available via csdirect according to login.
Response from Innovative • Our normal practice is to notify our customers when working on their systems. If there are instances where this has not occurred, we ask that you notify our management team that it has happened so we can investigate the circumstances. There are times when system monitoring utilities notify us of a problem and we will respond and correct the problem but in those cases, again, it is our practice to notify them that we have worked on their system after the fact.
Questions for Innovative Has anyone asked the question about Create list from data from the checkin card? We can create the list using the box data. However, we cannot list nor export those data. One of the international issues I think. It was raised at the 2008 AIUG meeting at the SLNSW. III said they will look into it and thought it could be a bug. It is illogical that you can search but not display the data.
Response from Innovative This is on the IUG 2010 ballot for Serials, worded as this: “Allow exporting and listing of all searchable box fields in review files based on 'checkin and card' record type.”
Questions for Innovative • Support for Solaris 10 Containers? Response from III: We are looking for a testing partner to work with which have the Solaris Containers. As soon as a partner is identified, we will test.
Questions to Innovative When will the Approval Plan load table be fixed so it does not strip out the marc subfield delimiter characters? Response: This was corrected in 2009B.
Questions to Innovative When would we get support for relative time searching in Create Lists (eg, "last 10 days", "last six months" etc). Response : This is not on the list for development as yet, however we know about it and are certainly carrying as a possibility. It will need to go through the enhancement cycle.
Questions to Innovative When print template support for labels from serial checkin records might be planned? Response: Spoken to development team. We don’t yet have a next development list, nothing is planned right now, but this could happen. We do plan someday to move this print job into print templates, we just don’t know when we will get to it. Perhaps AIUG could submit as an enhancement request to lobby for it ?
